This new Unison MAX_MINI model was created to be combined, in particular, with Unison Research tube amplifiers. For this purpose not only the sensitivity but also the impedance is optimized. It is a two-way bookshelf, reflex loaded, in compact size with two front fireing reflex ducts. This speaker can also be used as a front or back channel in Home Theater systems. Using two couples (front and rear) of MAX_MINI forms a home theater system, compact in size, but of great emotional impact that does not necessarily require a central channel or a sub-woofer.
The MAX_MINI presents a well-extended response to low frequencies and reproduces important sound volumes, with a clear and defined mid-range and high-quality reproduction of high frequencies.
It is not difficult to find the best position for this system in your room.
The 8" woofer (made in Italy) is equipped with a diaphragm made from a felted mix of vegetable fibers and carbon fibers. The voice coil, two-layer (one inside and one outside), 51 mm diameter, is rolled on an aluminum former with alluminium wire.
The woofer is equipped with a metal demodulating ring that avoid flux variation and thus reduces harmonic and intermodulation distortion to largely inaudible levels.
The magnet is neodymium made. The external suspension (the rim) is made of fabric and polyester fibers . the shape is a triple wave and it is damped with a newly designed product.
The basket is die cast for maximum rigidity. This woofer supports more than 200 watts of continuous power, much more than it will have to endure in actual conditions of use. This guarantees the complete absence of any thermal compression phenomenon.
The compression driver (also made in Italy) has a throat of one inch and the voice coil wire is in aluminum. It is loaded with Constant Coverage elliptical horn (60 ° x50 °) made of polyurethane. Incredibly robust, linear and with a natural sound and without any nasality. The directivity index is constant within more or less 0.85 dB up to 12kHz.
The heart of this speaker is the crossover which was made with very special attention.
The electric slopes of the haigh pass and low pass sections are symmetrical (12/12 dB / octave) and transition frequency is placed between 1 and 1.5 kHz. It is made with high quality and low tolerance components that are further selected and coupled. The coils, OFC copper wire, self casehardened, are made in Italy by SET. The capacitors are frm Mundorf (low tolerance) and the resistors are MOX with 1% tolerance and low temperature coefficient. The crossover is mounted on PCB (made in Italy by SET). The cabinet, of corse, is made in Italy. Exept for the capacitors and resistors, the entire speaker has been designed and manufactured in Italy.
Near the input connections, there is a switch that adjusts the MAX_MINI for the better performance with tube or solid state amplifiers.
This crossover implements the GTN technology (Genesis Transparent Network).
Particular care has been taken to make the impedance curve as smooth as possible to reduce the effect of the cables and the work of the amplifier. In particular, the minimum impedance is maintained around 6 ohms. The electrical impedance complies with DIN 45500 for nominal 8-ohm speakers.
To conclude the two external connectors are the well known and appreciated connectors used in the Unison Research amplifiers. They accept forks, bananas (4 millimeters) and peeled wire ensuring a safe and effective electrical and mechanical contact.
The cabinet is made of 25 mm thick MDF veneered in natural wood and is equipped with two front reflex ducts. The structure is further stiffened by internal reinforcements.
The internal volume of the cabinet (about 24 liters) has internal walls covered with polyurethane sheets with open cells also with a pyramidal profile.
The front panel is covered in synthetic leather. The speakers are mounted flush with the panel and the inner side of the front panel is properly milled to avoid coloration in the midrange.
Basically, despite being a diffuser made with components suitable for professional use, the cabinet was made following the dictates of the HiFi: speakers flush and rounded edges to not "spoil" the impulsive response with harmful diffractions at the edges.
The diffuser can be placed on a piece of furniture or on a stand but it can also be placed directly on the floor, taking care to orient the horn axis towards the listening point.
